A Dearborn candidate running for mayor vowed to fight crime and trash while reducing wasteful city spending as he unveiled his campaign platform during a speech to supporters.
Speaking Saturday, Sept. 20, in front of Henry Ford Centennial Library in Dearborn, Nagi Almudhegi said the city was declining under an administration indifferent to the concerns of residents. He vowed to reduce taxes, increase the number of police officers, focus on helping senior citizens and cut by 25% Mayor Abdullah Hammoud's salary, which was higher than Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's salary last year. Almudhegi, 51, an engineer and IT manager, will be on the November ballot along with Hammoud, 35, running for reelection for a second four-year term to lead Michigan's seventh largest city.
