AIKEN — Dark skies and rain dampened festival goers but not their spirits at Aiken’s Oktoberfest Sept. 20.
Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany, is the world’s largest folk festival, attended by millions of people each year from mid-September to early October. Aiken’s version takes place at the Newberry Street Festival Center, attended by up to 4,000 people.
“We love Oktoberfest. It’s one of our favorite festivals that we do in downtown Aiken,” said EmmaLee Sams, executive director of the Aiken Downtown Development Association.
“We love being able to put on fun-filled, family community events that we can have happen right here in downtown Aiken, so we appreciate everyone coming out for it,” she said.
Hans Lutz has lived in Aiken since 2005. He said his hometown is Ramstein, Germany, location
