A political storm brewed in the Odisha Assembly as Speaker Surama Padhy rejected the no-confidence motion brought by the Opposition Congress, citing procedural lapses and time expiration.

The motion, submitted by Congress leaders against the ruling government, was not accepted as the deadline—September 19—had passed due to continuous disruptions in the House. Speaker Padhy clarified that the motion could not be taken up as the Assembly proceedings were repeatedly stalled, leaving no room for discussion.

Following the announcement, Congress MLAs erupted in protest, storming the well of the House and shouting slogans. They later staged a walkout, accusing the Speaker of deliberately blocking the motion and calling it a “political conspiracy.”
