DOVER, Ky. (WXIX) - The manhunt for an attempted murder suspect who escaped from a jail in southern Ohio and fled over the Ohio River into northern Kentucky is now in its second week.

Authorities said Friday they had Brown County Jail inmate Jerry Lee Cooper, 48, “contained in a large wooded area in between Tuckahoe Road and Lee’s Creek Road.

They said he was armed with a rifle and “presents a major threat to law enforcement.”

The search has been difficult because he is hiding in extremely thick woods that are hard to navigate.

“All available resources at the state and federal levels have been asked for assistance. We will not cease until he is found.....Please pray for our safety and his apprehension,” the Mason County Sheriff’s Office said in an update Friday.
