Cherished BBC chef Clarissa Dickson Wright died with practically nothing in her accounts, forcing the sale of her belongings at auction to clear outstanding tax debts following her death. The celebrated culinary star had £9,000 remaining when she died in March 2014 aged 66, official documents reveal.

Despite frittering away a £2.8million legacy during periods of excessive alcohol consumption, the Two Fat Ladies personality still faced a £17,000 debt to HM Revenue and Customs. Nevertheless, following the sale of her treasured keepsakes, which generated roughly £40,000, her goddaughter Sara Wain-Heapy received £33,000.

Admirers snapped up 400 items, including an artwork by the chef's companion Joseph Oppenheimer, which commanded £300, reports the Express
