One person is dead after an explosion at an AAK plant, according to a news release from the Shively Fire Department.
Louisville and Shively fire departments responded to a report of a fire alarm sounding in the 2500 block of Seventh Street around 12:39 p.m. Sept. 21, Shively Fire spokesperson Charles Mucker said. When crews arrived, they did not find a visible fire and were taken to the area where an explosion occurred, Mucker said.
While investigating, crews found a victim with fatal injuries. According to the news release, the explosion was isolated to the exterior of the structure and was caused by a hydrogen tank conversion process.
Louisville Metro Arson and Louisville Metro Police were called to handle the investigation, Mucker said.
