New York City public school students will have their first set of days off this school year on Tuesday and Wednesday.
All public school students in New York City have two days off this week in observance of a Jewish holiday, according to the school calendar.
Schools are closed on Tuesday, Sept. 23, and Wednesday, Sept. 24, for Rosh Hashanah, a celebration of the New Year in Judaism.
The holiday translates to “head of the year” in Hebrew. It is a religious and festive time when family and friends gather together for meals and worship and grow closer to God, while also a time for looking forward to a new year with anticipation and reflecting on the past year to improve themselves.
