From the Times-Call photo archive via Longmont Museum: “Colorado National Guardsman Stanley Vigil reaches out Monday afternoon to a cycling couple who stash a cash donation in the collection can for the annual Muscular Dystrophy Telethon held Labor Day weekend. Guardsman and firefighters were on hand at the MDA fishbowl at 15th Avenue and Main Street to accept donations, which totaled $1,505.71 in cash. The Channel 7 telecast of the telethon brought pledges of $8,810 from area residents, down by a total of $2,100 in cash and pledges from last year’s benefit, according to Vern Sorensen, chairman of the event for the Longmont firefighters.”
