Huntsville police are urging folks to stay alert after seeing a rise in car break-ins this year.
Huntsville police say that in just three months, April, May, and June, 46 guns were stolen from unlocked cars.
Police report that from January through June, there were 435 reported car break-ins, compared to 385 during the same period in 2024. They say 80 to 90 percent of the vehicles broken into were left unlocked. As for those stolen weapons, they often end up on the streets, sometimes being sold.
