A 16-year-old is dead and an 18-year-old charged with manslaughter after a shooting Saturday night in Huntsville, police say.

According to the Huntsville Police Department, officers found a 16-year-old with a gunshot wound at a home in the 4200 block of TeeJay Drive about 7:30 p.m. Saturday. First responders tried to save the teen, but the 16-year-old died at the scene.

Police say, during their investigation, 18-year-old DaeShawn Harkey told officers he thought he had been handling a gun that was unloaded when it discharged, hitting and killing the other teen.

Harkey was arrested and booked into the Madison County Jail.
