Wilmington Police are investigating a fatal weekend shooting at a youth football game in Eden Park.

At 3:18 p.m. Sept. 21, officers responded to the 900 block of New Castle Avenue, where they found a 36-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a hospital in critical condition and later died, according to Wilmington Police.

Police did not release details about the victim.

6ABC reports a youth football game between the New Castle Jaguars and Upland Hurricanes was underway when shots rang out during halftime. The teams issued a joint statement saying a shooter approached a man on the sidelines and opened fire as hundreds of parents and children were in attendance for the game.
