BUCKTOWN — The core of Tony Fitzpatrick’s latest book is Chicago in all its facets: the sidewalks and the birds, the restaurants and the neon signs — and the dogs. So many dogs.

Not that that’s anything new. For decades, the spirit of the city has been imbued in the renowned artist’s collages and etchings, which hang in museums, “L” stations, taverns and private homes. His idiosyncratic style often features an animal surrounded by numbers, musical notation or other motifs that congeal into a dazzling whole.

But Fitzpatrick has always been more than a visual artist, acting in theater and television productions and writing newspaper columns and countless poems to match.
