BYRON CENTER, Mich. — It’s not always easy getting middle schoolers to enjoy math, but our next Teacher of the Week is. She’s in her 10th year and is teaching alongside people she says are some of her best friends at West Middle School in Byron Center.

With cheers and balloons, 13 ON YOUR SIDE surprised Chelsea Freiman as our next Teacher of the Week.

“I’m so touched by it and so surprised,” she said. “I love my students. I love this community. I love the families and to think that I just had a little difference on even one person is a big deal.”

Kris Vydareny is the West Middle School principal. He said it’s “always a little bit of a task when you’re trying to convince middle schools students not to let something out of the bag or even middle school teachers because they were excited
