HAGERSTOWN, Md. (DC News Now) -- A Hagerstown man was arrested after he was accused of starting a fire that spread to the porch of a home on Sunday.

According to the Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM), the fire was ignited in the 400 block of Mitchell Avenue just before 12:40 p.m. on Sept. 21. There, firefighters quickly put the flames out, which had extended from a trash can to a home.

No injuries were reported.

During the investigation, the fire marshal determined that the fire was intentionally set. Witnesses also identified the suspect as 20-year-old Brandon Gaither.

Shortly after, a Hagerstown police officer spotted Gaither near Winter Street and Church Street.

According to the OSFM, Gaither admitted to starting the fire during questioning.
