BELTON — A retired Army veteran, who barely survived a two-vehicle crash last year on South Fort Hood Street, was pushed in a wheelchair into a Bell County courtroom this week so that he could testify against the at-fault driver who was determined to have been drunk.

“My condition is really bad,” the elderly man said, when asked by the state’s prosecutor for his opinion on the punishment that the judge would determine. “I’m asking the court to sentence him to the max for what he did to me.”

As the victim spoke, the defendant, 35-year-old Francisco Sierra-Wittich, of Killeen, appeared to listen intently as three rows of the defendant’s family members looked on.
