President Donald Trump — alongside other elected officials, faith leaders and loved ones — paid tribute to the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk as he delivered remarks to a massive crowd of supporters during a memorial service on Sunday.

While addressing the tens of thousands of attendees at State Farm Stadium in Arizona, Trump described the co-founder of Turning Point USA as a “martyr for American freedom” and honored his efforts in mobilizing young conservatives. He then diverted, discussing his sweeping tariffs, the Make America Healthy Again movement and a slate of other topics.

At one point during his address, Trump explained how Kirk sparked civil discourse among both sides of the political aisle — and went on to acknowledge that he did not share the same characteristic
