Rutgers received mixed reactions from national outlets and computer rankings alike after its first loss of the season.

Following a 38-31 loss to Iowa (3-1, 1-0) in their Big Ten opener on Friday in Piscataway, the Scarlet Knights (3-1, 0-1) moved around sporadically across the multiple national rankings we track every week.

Here is where Rutgers ranks nationally following its first loss of the 2025 season and ahead of its first road trip of the fall:

Computer rankings

ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI): 50th (down six spots).

The FPI gives Rutgers a 51.2% chance of winning six games and notching its third consecutive bowl bid, which is down 26.9% from last week.

ESPN’s SP+ rankings: 43rd (up three spots).
