ALBERT LEA, Minn. – Law enforcement has confirmed it was a potential threat of violence that caused a partial lockdown Monday morning of schools in Albert Lea.
The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office and Albert Lea Police Department (ALPD) says they received information from the Federal Bureau of Investigation at around 7:30 am about a “potential threat of violence intercepted through social media monitoring.’
ALPD says school resource officers notified school district officials by about 7:45 am. Albert Lea Area Schools says since many student had already arrived for the day’s classes, it was decided to have all students move indoors and some buildings go into “secure mode” due to the nature of the threat. Police officers and deputies were also deployed to schools to ensure safety.
