MADISON, Wis. — Madison police responded to East Towne Mall Sunday afternoon after a man allegedly told shoppers he had a gun. Although officers searched the area, they did not find any weapon on the man.
Police were dispatched to the mall at 1 p.m. for a report of a weapons offense. They quickly learned about a man approaching shoppers in multiple stores telling them he had a gun. When officers arrived at the mall, they came into contact with the man, who was allegedly not cooperating and continued to walk away. The man was physically stopped after he was apprehended on the ground.
Police searched the man and did not find a gun on him. Officers searched the stores the man had been in to ensure there was not a discarded firearm in the area that could pose a danger to the public.
