ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - Zebra mussels have been found in Fort Phantom Hill Lake in Abilene.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department designated Fort Phantom Hill Lake as positive for zebra mussels Monday.

A press release from the TPWD says an adult zebra mussel was found next to a dock in August, and two microscopic larvae were found near the site where the adult was located during additional testing.

However, this infestation seems to be in the early stages and no additional signs of adult mussels or larvae have been found.

This means officials with TPWD and the City of Abilene will be heavily monitoring the lake for signs of a growing population that could damage important water intake infrastructure.
