LELAND, N.C. (WBTW) — A suspect is dead after a deputy-involved shooting in Brunswick County, North Carolina, on Monday morning, the sheriff's office said.
Deputies responded at about 5 a.m. to Mercantile Drive in the Leland area, the sheriff's office said. During the encounter, a deputy was hit by gunfire and suffered two gunshot wounds.

That deputy was taken to a hospital and is currently receiving care, while the suspect was killed, according to the sheriff's office. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is looking into the shooting, which is standard procedure.
