EDGEWOOD, BRITISH COLUMBIA - The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) are assisting the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) at an ostrich farm in British Columbia's Interior. Approximately 400 ostriches are set to be culled due to an avian flu outbreak.

The RCMP confirmed that they were requested to provide support as the CFIA executes a search warrant at the farm. According to an RCMP statement, the agency has been granted lawful authority to carry out this operation.

Katie Pasitney, a spokeswoman for the farm, reported that a convoy of police vehicles and waste disposal trucks is currently stationed outside the property in Edgewood. In a live video shared on social media, Pasitney urged viewers to intervene, asking them to "stop the massacre" from occurring.

The culling order comes after some birds on the farm tested positive for avian flu. The farm's owners previously attempted to delay the cull by seeking a court injunction, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

As the situation unfolds, the CFIA is taking necessary measures to control the spread of the disease and protect public health.
