BLOOMINGTON ( 25News Now ) - City staffers see economic benefits to a proposal calling for a 25% increase in the number of video gaming licenses allowed in Bloomington.
Since 2019, the city has permitted up to 60 establishments to receive licenses. At its meeting Monday night, the Bloomington City Council will consider amending the ordinance to allow up to 75 licenses.
A staff report said the change would allow 12 city establishments on a video gaming waiting list to obtain licenses, and it would allow for a few additional licenses.
Staffers said expanding the license limit will support economic development by increasing tax revenue, potentially create jobs, and help more local businesses remain competitive.
There’s no evidence suggesting this “modest” increase in licenses will negat
