INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WFIE) - In Indianapolis, a public clemency hearing in the case against death row inmate Roy Lee Ward is being held on Monday.

As we’ve previously reported, Ward was convicted of the rape and murder of 15-year-old Stacy Payne back in 2001 in Spencer County. He’s set to be executed next month.

Our Mitch Carter sat in on the first part of the hearing Monday morning at the Indiana Government Center, where the public and attorneys are invited to comment on granting Clemency for convicted Spencer County murderer Roy Lee Ward.

He says this morning’s session saw the state parole board speaking with Ward’s attorneys in this case, who are asking for the governor to grant him clemency, which means whether or not the state of Indiana will allow him to continue living in prison o
