CLEVELAND, Miss. ( WLBT /Gray News) – Former NFL player Colin Kaepernick will fund an independent autopsy of a college student who was found hanging from a tree in Mississippi.

The body of Demartravion “Trey” Reed, 21, a Black student at Delta State, was found hanging from a tree on the university’s campus last week.

His death was ruled a suicide by the Mississippi State Medical Examiner’s Office.

Officials said Reed did not suffer from any broken bones, cuts, bruises or any injuries consistent with assault.

However, according to civil rights attorney Ben Crump, Reed’s family has raised serious concerns after receiving conflicting accounts and incomplete information about the circumstances of his death.
