A man’s body has finally been identified months after it was found in Lake Michigan.

Conservation officers with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, the Porter County Coroner’s Office and the Indiana State Police identified 20-year-old Adan Carrera Sanches of Chicago on Sept. 19.

Sanches was found two miles offshore from Central Beach just before 8 a.m. on May 10. Due to the state of the body, his identity remained a mystery for months while forensic analysis was completed.

He was identified after the Stone Park Police Department confirmed they were investigating a missing person who had jewelry like a ring found on Sanches.

Officials later compared a family member’s DNA to solve the months-long mystery.
