Family of 6-year-old who died at Glenwood Caverns awarded $205M

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (KREX) -

A jury awarded $205 million to the family of a 6-year-old girl who died at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park in 2021.

The girl, Wongel Esifanos, was riding the Haunted Mine Drop Ride and died from multiple blunt force injuries after falling off the ride.

Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park stated in a press release that its thoughts and prayers are with "the family of Wongel Esifanos and everyone affected by the tragic accident." But the company added that the verdict amount "puts the existence of Glenwood Caverns at serious risk. If the jury verdict remains as it is, hundreds of local jobs are in peril."

Soaring Eagle, which manufactured the Haunted Mine Drop Ride, was also found liable.
