St. Louisan Luther Burden III enjoyed a breakout performance on Sunday as the Chicago Bears defeated the Dallas Cowboys for their first victory of the season.

The former prep star at Cardinal Ritter and East St. Louis had three receptions for 103 yards and a touchdown in the Bears’ 31-14 victory over Dallas at Soldier Field in Chicago.

Burden scored on a 65-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Caleb Williams on a flea-flicker with four minutes and 10 seconds left in the first quarter to give the Bears a 14-3 lead. It was Burden’s first touchdown as a National Football League player.

Burden also had a 29-yard reception late in the first half to set up another touchdown to give the Bears a 24-14 lead at halftime. He also had one carry for seven yards to give him 108 yards of total offense
