A deadly crash shut down multiple lanes of Interstate 5 near Camp Pendleton on Monday, causing traffic delays for those en route to San Diego County.

The crash was reported about 12:30 a.m. Monday on the southbound side of the freeway near Basilone Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Details of the crash were not immediately available.

By 7 a.m., some lanes had reopened, but delays of up to two hours were to be expected, according to SigAlert. The closure was expected through 10 a.m. but the SigAlert was lifted prior.
