JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Volunteers helped build rocking chairs for Hurricane Helene survivors as part of the United Way's Community Volunteer Project on Monday.
"We kick off our campaign every year, and every year we do a volunteer event, and we knew this year it had to be Hurricane Helene related," United Way of East Tennessee Highlands CEO Leslie Dalton said. "It's marking the year of when the hurricane happened, and we wanted to make sure that we could get back to those families."
Around 50 volunteers participated in the event.
"It's wonderful that our community is still engaged, and that's one of the reasons we do this, because we want to make sure that we bring awareness back to the hurricane and make sure that people know there's still a need out there," Dalton said.
