JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — The owner of a downtown business that doesn't sell alcohol says the city's new ordinance prohibiting on-premise alcohol sales after 1 a.m. is having a negative impact.

Mid City Grill owner Steven Garnett believes the ordinance was not the proper solution to alleviating violence downtown.

"For one thing, I'm not seeing a lot of families going out in the middle of the night anyway," Garnett said. "In my opinion, I just think it's a complicated situation and closing businesses earlier isn't the solution to the problem."

Garnett's restaurant does not sell alcohol but stays open for the late-night crowd. But Garnett said Mid City is still being affected by the new cut-off time.
