The federal government has plans to build a new U.S. District Courthouse in Hartford.

The General Services Administration announced Monday it is looking for a contractor for the project to replace the existing federal courthouse.

According to the agency, the new facility will address growing caseloads, and will provide a modern, secure location for the U.S. District Court, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, and other agencies.

The 281,000-square-foot building will be located at 180 Allyn Street and will include up to 11 courtrooms and up to 18 separate chambers.
