The Maryland Transportation Authority posted a statement to reassure the public that the Chesapeake Bay Bridge is safe.

This comes after photos started circulating on social media that appear to question the integrity of the structure supporting the bridge.

The MDTA said the image shows a pier cap that appears to be off-centered. The MDTA said the bridge girders, which are the key structural components supporting the span, are aligned and centered with the pier cap and that the positioning has not changed since the bridge’s construction.
