PICKENS COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) -- An Upstate man has pleaded guilty to driving impaired, leading to a fatal crash in 2023.

According to the Thirteenth Circuit Solicitor's Office, 61-year-old Jose Ismael Alejos, of Pickens, has been sentenced to twelve years in prison after pleading guilty to felony driving under the influence resulting in death.

The sentence was announced following Alejos's guilty plea on Thursday, September 18. The charges stem from a head-on collision that occurred on June 1, 2023, on Gentry Memorial Highway in Easley, resulting in the death of Margaret Kelley.

Evidence presented at the plea hearing showed that multiple witnesses observed Alejos's vehicle veering into oncoming traffic before colliding with Kelley's vehicle.
