Summer road projects on major highways can compel drivers to take smaller roadways, and many around Lake County have seen that effect due to ongoing construction on U.S. Highway 81 and S.D. Highway 34.

Dan Hansen, chief for the Nunda Volunteer Fire Department, has noticed this phenomenon and expressed concerns about a stretch of road that has caused some problems. He brought those worries to the Lake County commissioners at a Sept. 16 meeting, requesting a speed limit reduction. ×
