Gov. Greg Abbott posted a video to X that began, “I’m about to sign a law that says no men in women’s restrooms.”

He signed the law and then continued, “This is just common sense.”

SB 8, also known as the bathroom bill, prohibits governments, school districts, universities and state agencies from allowing trans women from using the bathroom that aligns with their gender identity. Any city, county or state agency that violates the law would be fined $25,000 for a first offense and $125,000 for future violations. Individuals would not be fined. Private businesses are not included in the law.
