COLUMBIA, Md. —
Maryland high school students are on a mission as part of a national campaign to end period poverty and the stigma that comes with that time of the month.
Having a period is just part of life for women, and Howard High School juniors Muthu Annamalai and Audrey McKay are on a mission to educate their peers and get more people talking about periods.
"Women shouldn't have to choose between spending money on food or menstrual products," Muthu told 11 News.
But many women are faced with such a decision.
So, Muthu and Audrey started a Period.org chapter at their school in Howard County as part of what is called "the menstrual movement."
"It was a little hard at first because there wasn't that much traction," Muthu told 11 News.
