BOSTON (WWLP) - The Boston Division of the FBI has issued a warning about a rise in scams involving couriers collecting bulk cash or gold bars from victims, primarily targeting the elderly.
In a news release on Monday by the FBI, these scams often involve fraudsters posing as family members, government officials, or tech support representatives to deceive victims into handing over money or gold to a courier sent to the victim’s address or a third-party location.
"Simply put, what these con artists are doing is cruel," said Ted Docks, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Boston Division. "These literal gold diggers are trying to get rich quick at the expense of our aging family members and friends."
