AUBURN, Ala. (WFIE) - Bruce Pearl, who coached the University of Southern Indiana basketball team from 1992 to 2001, has announced that he will be stepping down as Auburn’s head coach effective immediately.

In a news release, Auburn officials say Pearl will move into an ambassador’s role in the athletic department as special assistant to the athletics director.

Pearl lead the Screaming Eagles to a D-II championship in 1995.

He was named the NABC Division II coach of the year after his national championship.

He left USI with a 231–46 record over nine years.

Pearl was also the winningest coach in Auburn men’s basketball history with 232 victories.
