GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Authorities have recovered the body of a man who drowned near Sandy Island over the weekend.
28-year-old Nicholas Thomas Hold of Murrells Inlet was found around noon Monday by divers with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.
The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office said Mr. Hold drowned Sunday while swimming near Sandy Island.
The agency's marine units coordinated with SCDNR and Midway Fire Rescue to search for Mr. Hold.
Teams began searching for him around 8:40 p.m. on Sunday after he was last seen swimming in a lagoon near the island.
