CASTLETON — The future of a program designed to uplift nontraditional college students in the Vermont State Colleges System is facing closure, program leaders said during Friday.

Named after NASA physicist and Challenger astronaut Robert McNair, the McNair Scholars Program is a federally funded TRIO program that prepares low-income, first-generation and underrepresented students for doctoral studies through research experiences, faculty mentorship and graduate school preparation.
