BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - The man at the center of a 12-hour standoff in Burlington was listed in critical condition Monday evening. Now, state police have taken over the investigation into the officer-involved shooting.

Aaron Loucks, 32, is the man who was shot at by police. He now faces two charges in connection with what spurred a massive police response over the weekend.

Court paperwork obtained by WCAX News says Loucks threatened to kill bystanders and officers, and yelled racial slurs at children.

In video captured on Sunday, Burlington police detectives can be heard working to communicate with Loucks inside an apartment on Riverside Avenue in the city’s Old North End.

Neighbors say police also used flashbangs and tear gas to try to resolve the situation.
