STEUBEN COUNTY, N.Y. (WETM) — The Steuben County Department of Public Works (DPW) is warning residents about a new email scam that has reportedly surfaced in the area.

Officials stated that the new scam involves individuals posing as a representative from Steuben County, using a Steuben County email address to try to have a person give them banking information and wire funds.

Residents should be aware that these emails are a scam, emails that come from the county end with the suffix “steubencountyny.gov”. Further, Steuben County DPW reminded people that county employees do not use Gmail for official business, and its banking is done within New York State.
