Eastern Ontario leaders are speaking out against Via Rail’s plans to cut passenger service stops in communities between Toronto and Montreal, calling the move “boneheaded,” “unacceptable” and a potential precursor of more cuts to come.
Beginning Sept. 29, Via is launching a three-month direct service pilot project on select Montreal-to-Toronto trains. Trains 60, 61, 68, and 69 will run non-stop between Montreal and Toronto, and the schedule of Train 50 will be reduced. The changes will cause cancellations to stops, both eastbound and westbound, in communities between Toronto and Montreal.
