BATH, N.Y. (WENY) -- An ongoing scam is targeting Steuben County residents by impersonating official county email addresses, Steuben County officials announced Monday.
Perpetrators are contacting residents through the spoofed email addresses in order to get banking information and wire funds from unknowing victims.
Steuben County says emails from officials will always end with the suffix "steubencountyny.gov" and will not come from a Gmail account. The county also advising residents that if they are contacted by a Steuben County official they should vet the email domain and exercise extreme caution when providing any banking information by email.
The government of Steuben County does all of its banking within New York State, according to officials.
