BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — A rare 1820s wood-frame house at 24 Middagh St., one of the neighborhood’s oldest, has hit the market after a controversial renovation. While its exterior was carefully restored to Landmarks Preservation Commission standards, preservationists lament that the historic interior – once nearly intact – was gutted and reconfigured for modern use.
Aside from a few mantels, little remains of the original fabric, leaving some old-house advocates dismayed.
