BLOUNTVILLE, Tenn. (WJHL) — A survivor of the Rwandan Genocide, which left nearly one million Tutsi citizens in Rwanda either starved or slaughtered in 1994, is set to speak at Northeast State Community College on Sept. 30.

"Born into a family that had already survived the Holocaust, Marie-Christine Williams had no idea that just seven short years after she moved from her grandmother’s care in France to her father’s home in Rwanda, she too would be a part of one of the worst genocides in world history," a release from the college states.

According to the release, Williams survived the 100-day genocide in Kigali, Rwanda, at the age of 14. The experience reportedly left her unable to walk and in need of intense rehabilitation. She released a book titled "The Darkside of Human Nature," whic
