Mediation efforts between Fort Wayne leaders and a local fire union to reach a new collective bargaining agreement have ended, Mayor Sharon Tucker announced today.

The negotiations became public in June when the Fort Wayne Metro Firefighters IAFF Local 124 publicly asked Fort Wayne Fire Chief Eric Lahey to resign. Union President Jeremy Bush said Lahey's mismanagement has created unsafe working conditions and slow response times.

Tucker and Lahey have shared information with the public and adjusted its training practices, which they said show the city is in safe hands.

The mediation, which started in June, was initiated to resolve contract disputes. The process was mediated by former City Councilman Jason Arp, who was chosen from three individuals chosen by the union, a news release sai
