DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) -- The Danville Police Department launched an investigation over the weekend after a bone was found in a park.
The bone was discovered in Ellsworth Park Saturday morning. Sergeant Andrew Brooks said a cleanup crew made the discovery and contacted police -- they believed the object was human remains.
Responding Danville Police officers also treated the bone as such and started an investigation. The Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services also responded to the scene and an archeologist from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources eventually examined the bone.
Brooks said the archeologist determined that the bone was an animal's, and it did not originate from a human.
Brooks released no further information.
