(WWNY) - The state recently criticized two town supervisors in the North Country for the way they handled their towns’ financial records.
First - the town of Lorraine . The state comptroller’s office said the town supervisor “did not maintain complete, accurate and up-to-date accounting records and reports,” which resulted in the board lacking reliable information needed to manage the town’s money.
The state’s report shows that at the end of 2023, 6 town bank accounts had more cash in them than the town had recorded in the books. 3 of the accounts exceeded recorded balances by more than $500,000.
The state offered the town 10 recommendations to improve the town board’s oversight of taxpayer money. A response from the town to the state, dated July 23, written by Supervisor Sandra Clark
